G&M Approved #13 - The Cottage Irish Pub

Let's welcome The Cottage Irish Pub to the exclusive ranks of G&M Approved as we believe they represent the best of the best in San Antonio. The Cottage Irish Pub is #13 in this series and is a great addition to what we believe to be an incredibly inviting and welcoming traditional Irish neighborhood pub.

The Cottage Irish Pub has only been open 7 to 9 months however they have already built a following of loyal customers. Gina and I were excited about finding this local gem and we have enjoyed everything every time we have been. The space had been designed to have a very traditional Irish Pub feeling with plenty of stained wood and excellent accent details.

You can click HERE to preview their menu! Trust me, it is a great selection of traditional Irish fare!

However, don't take our word alone...Look at their review on sites like Google and Yelp such as these:

"After working up a big appetite on the pickleball courts, getting food in my belly became my purpose in life. I had the cottage pie, aka shepherd's pie, it was a hit: beautiful mashed potatoes on top with melted cheese made this dish appealing to the eye. The gravy, beef, and diced veggies on the bottom were savory, fresh. The carrots might have needed a little more cook time and the potatoes could have used a bit more salt. The portion is large and could easily feed two.

My son had the chicken curry with steamed rice: wow! Super flavorful with bold spices, coconut milk, tomato sauce and chicken. The portion was large enough for one teen or 2 adults. The rice portion was a bit on the small side, less than a cup.

We ate on the patio, quiet, serene and perfect for conversation. Inside, the dark atmosphere, world cup soccer going on , it was 100% British pub, frothing with energy.

The hostess and wait Staff were friendly and worked well, even on this crowded afternoon." - Phillip W.

"The Cottage Pub is pretty close to a traditional Irish pub. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, ambiance and staff. We visited on Saint Patrick's day for my wife's birthday (March 17th). As expected, the place was packed but the drinks and food were good. The shepherds pie and fish and chips were pretty authentic and the beer was cold. Would definitely recommend!" - Brandon F.

"I've been waiting for The Cottage to open for months and it didn't disappoint! Being a big fan of Irish pubs and always on the search for authentic feeling pubs, this one is definitely better than the average American Irish pub (and the ones I've went to in San Antonio). 7.5 out of 10 for authenticity.

The music was great! The food was delicious, although I will try the fries instead of the mashed potatoes next time. I like that they have happy hour and that the prices are reasonable. Average - not cheap and not expensive (especially not Riverwalk prices).

The decor is lovely and definitely exudes an Irish pub feel. It was a bit chilly on the 25 degree day we went. Would've been nice for them to turn up the heat a bit. The service was pretty good, especially considering there appeared to only be 2 dedicated servers that night.

Overall, a great experience! We hope to make this a staple in our local hang outs."
